HELP ME MOVE
Check In With A New Buffalonian
Vaibhavi Solanki, M.D.
M.D., General Physician
Dr. Vaibhavi Solanki was born in India, moved to Canada young, and subsequently made over 15 other moves to different cities across North America. Along the way, she met her husband, who now lives in Hamilton, Ontario. After undergoing her residency in Manhattan, she was looking for a place to settle and have easy access to the Canadian-American border.
Buffalo was the perfect fit, landing a gig with General Physician Care and getting an apartment in downtown Buffalo.
“I love the walkability and ease of the metro line,” Dr. Solanki said, also praising the NEXUS system that allows her fast border crossings between Buffalo and Canada a few times a week. Her gym and work are both within walking distance from her apartment near the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.
Beyond the feel of city and convenience of the transportation, Dr. Solanki has found the people to be a highlight of moving to The City of Good Neighbors. Her coworkers welcomed her with open arms and many, many recommendations of things to do and restaurants to check out.
“Even at work, I have been able to relate with the patient population and get through to people,” she said. “People are open and kind here.”
Why did Buffalo make sense for your career?
I wanted to practice in an area where I could make an impact. I wanted to bring diversity from my own background to a community and an organization. It has been great since moving.
What surprised you most about Buffalo?
I was pleasantly surprised with the diversity of the food. Obviously pizza and wings are incredible here, but I have found amazing food from so many different cuisines.
